Winkelpickers: The winkelpicker, originally known as “populaines”, has a history that begins in the medieval days. At that time the code was: the longer the point of your shoe, the higher your social status.
In the 1950´s the winkelpicker reappeared on the fashion scene. The “Teddy Boys” championed creepers, but winkelpickers also became a favourite. In the 1960´s the winkelpickers was taken up by the Mods. Their style was sharp and clean, button down shirts and tailored suits, complemented by winkelpickers.
In the 1970´s the winkelpicker saw another comeback, they ware seen as the saviour of fashion sanity. Punks ware quick to pick up the pointed toe as a part of their statement.
In the late 1970´s and early 1980´s the “New Wave” arrived and the winkelpickers returned, but know more playful, in 2 tones and loud colours.
Into the 2000´s the winkelpicker has become the popular choice among the rock sub culture with bands such as S.C.U.M, The Horrors, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon and the Klaxons among many fans.
